MUSIC THERAPIST

Part-time Contractor

Job Summary:

The contract, part-time Music Therapist, under the guidance and direction of the KidLinks Director of Programs, is responsible for providing up to 6-8 sessions (6-8 hours) a week of music therapy for children with special needs.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Establish goals for therapy, collecting and analyzing data from the client’s responses to music, and customizing treatment plans for each client
  • Integrate behavioral, developmental, and neurological approaches into music therapy treatments services
  • Provide emotional support and coping mechanisms
  • Maintain proper and thorough documentation of music therapy sessions
  • Notify families of client’s progress throughout therapy period
  • Faithfully represent and carry out the mission, goals and spirit of service embodied in the KidLinks philosophy
  • Protect the confidentiality of sensitive information
  • Help set the tone and carry out the vision of the organization

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in music therapy or related field
  • Board Certification through The Certification Board for Music Therapists
  • Experience working with children with special needs and familiarity with a variety of diagnoses
  • Strong music skills with the ability to play and perform on many different types of musical instruments
  • Deep understanding of human psychology and knowledge of the principles and methods of therapy and counseling
  • Must possess empathy, compassion, imagination, and patience
  • Strong project and time management skills
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Committed to, and proficient in, serving children with special medical and emotional needs

Working Conditions:

  • Position requires an individual to work independently of a structured office environment
  • Position requires an individual to travel within the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex on a regular basis
  • Position requires reliable personal transportation to music therapy clinics
  • Position requires a valid driver’s license and proof of auto insurance
  • Position requires therapist to carry her/his own liability insurance
