The holiday season is in full force and we made it to December! This month, I created a Christmas themed blog that incorporates songwriting. Every year lots of little kiddos write a Christmas list for Santa, so I thought that would be a great opportunity to turn that into a song. I created a short little song that includes several lines that allow the client to fill in the blanks. There are lines where the client has the opportunity to identify him/herself and tell a bit about themselves such as their age and where they live. Additionally, (and the best part) there are lines where the client can tell what they want for Christmas. Songwriting interventions are great because they allow for clients to create and express themselves. For this month, in addition to the song, I created a visual aid that therapists can use in their virtual sessions. A fun way to use the visual aid would be to let the client write on the blank lines with the drawing option in Zoom. I hope this intervention is one that you can use with your client(s) and be sure to let us know how it goes! Happy holidays!
