On Friday, April 1, 2022, I was privileged to be a part of the KidLinks 40th anniversary celebration concert in Dallas. It was truly a magical night with Jim, Paul, Larry, Hayden, and of course Noel Paul Stookey of “Peter, Paul & Mary” fame. The donors of our organization are simply wonderful as they opened their hearts and wallets in support of KidLinks' mission. The funds they raise are life-changing for many of our music therapy clients. Parents may or may not be able to afford music therapy or understand the value of music therapy until they become acquainted with the process of music therapy. Through the program, and because of our generous donors, parents, and caregivers, kids can receive up to 24 free music therapy sessions. There are no other programs that I am aware of that give that kind of gift to families. Once families are off our waiting list, they can expect to receive a weekly 30-minute session from a board-certified music therapist. Our donors understand that for many music therapy clients, we are building skills slowly and that takes time. However, with up to 24 “free” music therapy sessions parents and/or caregivers receive enough time to observe whether music therapy can assist their child. I am grateful for the years I have spent with the KidLinks organization because they truly have a heart for kids. Thank you KidLinks for your continued support of music therapy and music therapists.
