I just cannot believe the holidays are upon us! It’s crazy to see all the Christmas decorations up in stores when Halloween had just wrapped up. Personally, I just love Thanksgiving. I love the weather, spending time with family and friends, and of course all the food! It really reminds me to be thankful for all that is around me. I also think it’s a great thing to incorporate in my sessions as well. Not only does it help clients identify what is meaningful to them, but it can also help them see these people or things in a more significant way. I can then speak to each person or item individually and allow them to express why they appreciate that person or item. It becomes a great opportunity for the client to utilize expressive speech skills. To facilitate that, I have created a Thanksgiving adaptation to the song, “The More We Get Together”. I have also created a visual that therapists can use to further identify those people and things that the client may want to talk about. I thought of it as a tree and clients can either put pictures of people or things in their own life, instruments they use in music therapy, or they could even write down what they’re thankful for on individual leaves that are then attached to the tree. I really hope this is something that can benefit your clients and let us know if you are able to use it in your sessions. Happy Thanksgiving!

Together, together
The more we get together
